Welcome! I am an author and former journalist writing several books, the first about epilepsy - a condition I have and one that is widely misunderstood. It won't be your typical "self-help" book, though. Stay tuned for details and an excerpt. You can sign up for my newsletter or visit the "NEWS" section of this site periodically.

The old adage to "write what you know" seems to be true in my case, as my second book, which I'm working on right now as well (I get bored easily) is an untitled look at the crimes that linger with me. I worked in law enforcement, covered crime as a reporter, and experienced it in my own life (see "BIOGRAPHY" for more info). This book details some of that. Finally, I'm writing a fiction series (crime/suspense/thriller) set in Austin, my hometown.

Please visit my "BRAIN BLOG" (under construction) for buzz, opinions, film and book reviews, and if you are a writer who would like your book reviewed, feel free to shoot me an email at the "CONTACT ME" page. I'm happy to work with other new writers and those who are taking the self-published route.

My books will be available for download at Amazon.com, BN.com, other e-book sites, and in paperback editions. I'll also make excerpts available here and link to any other places you can purchase them.

I would love to hear from other indie authors who are venturing into the e-publishing world.

Please check the "RESOURCES" page for information about epilepsy, crime, crime victims, victims' rights, epilepsy advocacy, crime victim advocacy, and self-publishing. You'll also find information and links for writers going the indie route and some of my favorite websites and blogs.

I'm updating the NEWS page, but very soon you'll links to a free download of the first section of my book, "I'm Not Crazy, I Have Epilepsy." I aim to have the book completed by Purple Day 2013; I've been gathering stories from other people with epilepsy to include antecedes from those with all types of this disorder.

Please see BUY IT to purchase items for epilepsy awareness. All proceeds go to the Anita Kaufmann Foundation.
